*heehee*

To those what celebrate today, and those what celebrated last week, and those what celebrate next month, and those what feel Friday is a good enough reason for celebration in itself. You make me feel loved, and that's the best gift of all.

Scrivener (which is Mac-only) is sponsoring NaNoWriMo this year, and as part of that they're running a special on the software: an extended trial, a discount on purchase, and an even bigger discount if you "win" NaNo this year. Details here.

AND... if you happen to be a PC-user, do not fret! Down in the comments someone mentions Liquid Story Binder, and guess what? It's half-off for November.

There are many, maaaaaaany other writing/organization tools out there, including freeware and shareware products. I'm not posting about these because I think they're The Bestest Ever (though I see Scrivener recced all OVER the place), just pointing out that they're on sale.

So, a couple days ago I made this Curried Lentil Soup (and I'm still eating it, and it is quite yummy). I have a tendency before I make something new to check out the reviews for it (if there are any) just to see, you know, what experiences other people have had. (F'r instance, given that I am a TOTAL SPICE WIMP, a note that a recipe "needed a little extra kick" tells me I will probably like it as written. For this one, I admit, I left out the cayenne. WIMP. I know.)

Anyway. If you too tend to check out reviews on recipe sites, you know how this goes... about a third to half of the reviewers made the recipe as written, some people add a couple ingredients, some subtract, substitution notes can be useful if there's an ingredient you'd rather not use, whatever. Some people use the recipe as a "base" to riff from and add LOTS of additional ingredients and post reviews of their results to the original. Other people are annoyed by this and say so in THEIR reviews.

Then this one made me sputter laughing at my desk: Loved it, and made the following replacements: habanero peppers instead of carrot, frozen french fries instead of potato, masaman chili paste, and used two cups of dried pinto beans. I also used Shedds Spread instead of olive oil. It was as beautiful as it was delicious and healthy. Served it over sauerkraut. For dessert we had twinkies and kool-aid. Otherwise I wouldn't change a thing!

It was the last line that did me in. HAH!

PSA: White Collar starts tonight!! I'll be tuning in after I get back from taking my 9-year-old to his fall carnival :)

Or, well. I've now finished ONE of the two I hoped to have done by today, at any rate, so nobody get all excited or anything.

Title: Collecting Jewels That Catch Your Eye
Fandom: The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (pre-movie)
Rating: Adult
Words: ~3200
Characters: Nico/Jeremy (OMC)
Summary: It occured to Nico that all the scariest things Jeremy had ever said to him had started with 'trust me.'
Disclaimer: Nobody here is mine. Dammit.
Author's Note: Written for my [info - community] kink_bingo card, the "crossdressing" square. You may remember Nico as "Intern #1"... that is, if you recall the movie at all :D Or the character, as he's only referred to by name once (and I had to check the subtitles for spelling). Anyway! Set early in Nico's college career, before he first boarded the Belafonte. Jeremy is ever-so-loosely based on Dirty Sexy Money's Jeremy Darling. Very loosely. And big smishes, as usual, to [info]tsuki_no_bara for cheering me on :D

Specifically, any you know that can be somewhat easily halved/thirded/whatevered to fit a 1 1/2 quart crockpot. I finally found a small one with a removable/dishwasher safe insert, and it was on sale for SEVEN DOLLARS and I snatched that puppy up so fast you would not believe.

Ben Barnes and Colin Firth in Dorian Gray

The current lack of a U.S. distributor makes me sadface, but I will persevere. Anyone in the UK planning on giving it a look?

The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across The 8th Dimension was released 25 years ago today. I envy Portland's anniversary screening and will be curling up with my DVD tonight.

I feel there should be celebratory food of some kind as well, but I'm drawing a blank as to what would be appropriate.
19th-Jul-2009 10:21 am - I cooked yesterday!
_ I have crushes on hot TV characters.
This is mostly noteworthy because I've had two eggplants languishing in my fridge since last Saturday's farmer's market because it has been too hot to cook all week. (I have some of those green-bag thingies for produce, which really do work quite well. I loves them.) I went with a layered eggplant and polenta casserole only I skipped all the bits where you basically cook up a tasty marinara sauce from fresh ingredients and, uh, bought a likely-looking jar of sauce at the store instead. Lo, I am a lazy-ass cook.

Also, hi! I missed my LJ-versary earlier this month, eight years, how time flies, etc., etc. And... you know, I haven't been around much. Except for occasionally spamming comments, which reminds me, NBC is going to wimp out on ending the world again tonight at 8 central \o/

(I was just folding my laundry and had a moment of "WTF, someone lifted all my socks??" before I remembered I'd been wearing sandals all week. Fail, brain. FAIL.)

Saw the new Harry Potter yesterday and loved it, my only (non-spoilery!) comment is that there were several scenes where I could swear someone CGI-ed away poor Daniel's stubble. I'm probably mistaken, but once the thought occurred to me it would not go away.

Also saw (500) Days of Summer, which I expected to be cute and sweet and now think might be one of the best relationship movies I have ever seen. I can't stop thinking about it. Or bugging [info]tsuki_no_bara about it because she's the only other person I know who's seen it.

I loved the finale of Harper's Island, am in denial about Kings ending, and am pleased that Dirty Sexy Money is temporarily back on my teevee except for the fact there was not enough Jeremy in last night's ep. I've also been writing fic... for characters no one will remember in fandoms no one's ever heard of *laughs* But I do that sometimes, no surprise. May have stuff worth posting soonish.
